Unusual Heat Tops Barrett's August and Comes Full Circle

The circle of life for both Unusual Heat and Barrett's Sales paralleled for one last glorious moment at the 2018 Barrett's Select August Yearling Sale. In what was the final select sale and penultimate event for Barrett's, Inc. which was founded in 1990, Hip #11 by Unusual Heat became yet another sales topper for California's All Time Leading Stallion. In the ultimate twist of fate and irony, the colt out of the Capote mare Cinema Paradisa sold for $250,000 which was the exact same amount that his father Unusual Heat hammered down for at the 1992 Barrett's March 2 year old in training sale at Pomona.

Unusual Heat was an early star for Barrett's with his impact continuing to final crop in the final days of Barrett's as a sales company. He had sales toppers such as Real Heat in the 2011 October Yearling Sale, Pacific Heat in the 2014 October Sale and was covering sire of Sales Topper Sci Fi Kin in the 2012 January Breeding Stock Sale. Other notable Barrett's Graduates with Unusual Heat influence include Grade 1 Winner Golden Doc A, Grade 2 Champions Lethal Heat and Gervinho, and graded stakes horses Cheekaboo, Spenditallbaby and He Be Fire N Ice, Unusual Heat also had stakes producing daughters such as Phi Beta Heat and La Sombre sell at Barrett's.

Hip 11 is dark bay or brown colt bred, raised and consigned by John C. Harris' Harris Farms. The colt, a virtual clone of his father, was purchased by Samantha Siegel and her Jay Em Ess Stable and will be trained by Brian Koriner. He will be raced in California.
